# solve please -2x-3 is greater than or equal to 4x+7?

Relevance

-2x-3 > 4x+7 .... subtract 7 from both sides, you get...

-2x-10 > 4x ..... then add 2x to both sides, and you get...

-10 > 6x ...... multiply both sides by 1/6....

-10/6 > x ..... flip it around and reduce....

-5/3 > x OR x < -5/3

x is less than or equal to -5/3

You can double check your answer. Pick a number less than x, such as -2 (which is less that -5/3). Plug it in. You get...

-2(-2) - 3 = 4-3 = 1

4(-2) + 7 = -8+7 = -1

and 1 is greater than -1, so it works!

• for each (>) sign remember the (equal to bar) underneath it

-2x-3 > 4x+7 subtract 7

-10 > 6x divide by 6

-10/6 > x

-5/3 > x

so x is LESS THAN OR EQUAL to -5/3

• It depends on the value of x.

If x greater or equal than 5/3 then -2x-3 is greater or equal than 4x+7

You only have to solve as a regular equation, but take care of change the signs (+ / -) when multiply or divide by a negative number.
