If you grow your own basil, which leaves should you pick first? The ones on top, or the ones underneath?

You can pretty much pick and choose. I try to avoid any new growth, wherever it is, but harvesting from the bottom only may lead to the plant growing too tall for it to be convenient for you to grow.

The leaves underneath because the older or bigger leaves will make more chlorophyl & can leave the bitter taste . But for making a fish with mushroom in butter cream you can use the top ones and mix it with dil leaves to get the better taste.
