I would not purchase a laptop from Walmart.

Easiest thing to do would be to buy one from CompUSA, Circuit City or BestBuy. I do not recommend one of the other but they are all retailers that sell a large number of systems and many times have reasonably knowledgeable representatives. I would stay away from any system with a anything lower than the following specs....

    RAM Storage 1 GB (1000MB)

    Hard Drive 120 GB

OS - XP Home or Pro

    DVD

    Integrated Wireless Card

I also AMD chips but you could make an argument that Intel Chips are just as good.

RAM is Random Access Memory - basically it is work space. When the machine is turned off anything in RAM is lost

Hard Drive is where your data is stored including your operating system, word processors and any papers you may be writing.

Processor - AMD/Intel is actually the brains of your machine.

Operating system - Windows - this is your graphical interface you use to navigate the computer

DVD - allows you to install from DVD and watch DVD's on your laptop.

Wireless - will allow you to easily connect at Wireless Hotspots (i.e. on campus, airports, hotels, etc.)

    Hope this helps!

Stay away from Walmart computers...over priced and no help if you have a problem. here is where I get most of my computers ( I own a computer store ) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/c... This link is to their laptop page, look thru there and find something you like. You will get a cheaper price and get a better computer and 24/7 help if you have a problem. Also, there is not much difference between computers any more...they all have the same stuff inside. Just get the one that you think you would be happy with, thats what matters anyway, isn't it? here is the one I would get right now if I needed one (Just my personal pick) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTool... but like I said, find the one you like the most and get it. Good Luck!

you can call tigerdirect 24/7 at 1-800-800-8300 for any questions or more help deciding.
