When shorting a stock, is there a time limit when you have to cover?

    No. However, there can be a margin call if your equity position falls below the rules set by the brokerage company.

    No, there is never a time limit. Your position will be open until your account balance goes under the maintenance margin.

    Depends who you are trading with and through. Mostly i believe it is 1 month.

    No. have to pay the dividends (if any) if hold it through an ex-div date though.
