Another question for Christians:?

If God gave you the power to think and reason, why do you blindly follow the teachings of the bible, and refuse to consider other possibilities (note: I realize not all Christians are like this, if your not you can just ignore this question).

I have. Honestly I pondered the possibility that another religion may be true and I was an agnostic for a year and a half after having begun to doubt the Bible.

Mike, I consider that other sources do have great thoughts, ideas and teachings, and I also believe God gave us not only intelligence but reasoning and wisdom and discernment to tell good from bad.

Why do I blindly follow? I don't. In fact most christians I know do question the teachings. Largely because we want to understand what these teachings really mean.

For instance, why does God tell us not to let the sun go down on our anger, especially when sometimes you need to sleep on an issue. Because if you wait, 2nd thoughts can occur, you start to read into that person's body language, lack of response, their silence. Have you ever had one of those cases where you were rally angry at someone and you either lost a friend because of it, or when you finally got together you found you both misunderstood the issue? You lost that time in between. If you had resolved the issue quickly, the two of you could have moved on (I'm not pointing fingers at you by the way, I'm just using that as an example to put it into perspectives you might relate to). In fact, that issue about resolving differences is one of our biggest rules. Did you know that the Bible also tells us that we cannot fellowship with God until we resolve these issues, because he wants a pure heart. Unfortunately a lot of us forget this issue and stay angry and wonder why God does not hear us.

The Bible can be the greatest self-help manual in the world. And because I find so many of the teachings, and I'm talking about what the New Testament teachings are about how we should treat one another. All of God's laws stem from one primary law - they stem from love, which nullified the Old testament Laws. This was explained in the First few chapters of Romans. We are no longer under the law, but under grace.

So, why do I follow Christ's teachings in the Bible, because for me, it makes sense. The laws about treating one another with decency and respect were being taught in a time when Christians were persecuted to the point of death, and yet they were told to walk in love and in peace. So, if those teachings made sense in that fearful violent time, they sure make sense to me in the relative comfort of my modern day world.

Many Christians do not follow the Bible, blindly or otherwise. Some study the background and verify as much as they can, while realizing that they must await the fulfillment of the unfulfilled. ever the Bible itself encourages research and study Acts 17:17.

No offense but if you realize that all Christians are not like "this" then why do you lump us all together. Why not say "why do some christians blindly follow and not consider other possibilities."

Because people are having real life experiences with Jesus and angels all over the world all the time. It just doesn't ever make the news. Some of us just know in our hearts that the Bible is true because of the specific prophecies that have been fulfilled and healings.

Check out this website http://www.near-death.com/experiences/research21.h... It has true stories of non-Christian people who have died and came back to tell that God is real and how he is.

Because God gave me a free will, & I take my free will & believe in God's word, & also, I am not blindly following the teachings of the Bible, My eyes is wide open & my spiritual eyes are wide open, But to them that is without, Without what? Without the Holy Ghost, then they will never understand the bible, I am not the one that is blind, You are.

It's because God gave me the power to think and reason that I do follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I'm a Christian, but I still like drinking beer on occasion and my wife and I like banging away, I don't kill or steal or anything like that, but I'm not perfect either. I think the Christians you're referring to are those right wing "born again" Bible thumpers. They think they're so perfect and can do no wrong and always openly criticize others.

Faith is being sure of what you hope for, certain of things not seen. Biblical faith is not blind. Blind faith is believing something that can't be know to be true. God never asks you to have blind faith, but demands reason.

I have studied every major religion of the world. THE ONLY ONE whose claims can be substantiated are those in the Bible.

If you want to logically examine those claims, study them!
