To celebrate the restoration of Poland's independence in 1918 after 123 years of partitions by Austro-Hungary, Prussia, and Russia.

celebrates the restoration of Poland's independence after 123 years of foreign occupation- by Russia, Prussia and Austria.

It is celebrated on November 11 (coincidentally WW1 Armistice day) because that is the day when the Regency Council (established by Prussia) officially handed over power to Pilsudski
