Have you ever been really hungry and had no money to eat?

Have any of you been helplessly broke to the point of not having money to buy food? how was it?

What did you do to eat?

In my younger days, my job paid very little. At times I had foodless days, considered paying the rent to be more important.

I feel very lucky that no serious harm came to me for this, and even luckier that I am no longer so poor.

oh man, I was on a camping trip and the weather was lousy so we didnt catch any fish. After about 4 days we ran out of our "dry" food and our ride wasnt going to pick us up for an other 3 days! I was pretty desperate by day 2 and I got to thinking of catching one of the squirrels that are pretty much tame around there, but i didn't have the stomach to do it. When our ride came we hit the first gas station. all they had were potato chips so I had like 4 small bags and a coke. I think that was my best meal, ever. Yeah I can't believe people starve on this earth. My heart goes out to them. I think of my camping trip from hell anytime anyone says, "Man I am starving!" My classic answer to that is, "are you hungry enough to eat a squirrel?"

Yes, I've been 4 days to payday and flat broke, unable to eat, no electricity (got turned off), and unable to take the bus to go to work because we had no money. Those were some very rough days, painful too. On the 3rd day we went to the local mission and they gave us some day old bread, which we ate.

At the time, I had too much pride to ask for help from my church. I know, that's dumb, because they would have helped us, but pride does go before a fall lol

Yes. But, I had canned food and Ramen noodles. I lived on that off and on that many times when I started living by myself.

It was hard. Shortly after, my truck's engine threw a rod and stopped working. I borrowed my friend's bike and rode to work, school, and the YMCA. Later I got my own bike and finally returned his to him. He really helped me help myself. I also picked up bike riding after I got my truck a new engine.

While I was young, I lived off cereal, bread and milk. lol Half the time I didn't have milk for my cereal and the other half I didn't have cereal.

I was never completely out of food for longer than a day or two. I just learned to eat cheap. (Ramen and canned food) and make my money last longer. I had to kick a roomate out for eating my food once. He spent all his money eating at restaurants and then came home to eat my food!

    Here is a comforting Scripture...

22Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

27"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

32"Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Lk 12)

    Hope this helps...

I drank lots of water, luckily I had cousins that lived a couple of miles away, I walked over and ate a peanut butter sandwich. There were a few times, bringing up my kids, I went a day or two without eating in order to make sure my kids had enough.

I've been close enough to know that I don't want to be there again. A friend helped me by sharing what he had. While I live, that friend will never want. And I try to help others who are hungry by helping serve food at the soup kitchen and donate to the local community outreach.

    Mmm Hmmm I've been there.

You wanna talk about financial suicide. Been there done that. Switched jobs, moved to a new area, and had it rough. But being strong headed, thinking I don't need anyone.I remember looking in our cabinet and only thing we had was a box of crackers, and peanut butter.... My neighbor turned our names (my family) into the church. And we recieved a box of goodies, and a list of people who were willing to hire me, so I had a job.

However that I've been in that position..I have not a problem donating can goods for food drives, and helping a neighbor in need.

Thank goodness for good people, and strength of prayer.

Yes. No money for food for almost two months. Ate bread, crackers only a small amount every day.

I pray to never have to do that again.

It was the most horrible experience of my life.
