is the name "Francesco" Spanish or Italian?

Ex. Francesco Goya

Francesco Totti

Seems like it could go either way but how do you know?

Francesco is Italian (and is pronounced Frahn-chess-coe)

Francisco is Spanish (see the minor difference?)
