What's a good excuse for calling out of work ahead of time?

Last time I called out sick and my managers were really mad. I want to call out ahead of time so they can find someone else to cover my shift. I need an excuse where they won't say, "Well, can you come in anytime at all on Sunday?" because I need the entire day off.

Update:

Well if the reason you are asking off is legit, then just tell the truth. If not just say you have to unexpectedly go out of town...maybe because of an ill relative. If you're out of town there's no way you could come in during the day!

Try to get your shift covered first so when you call in, you can tell them "Jenny offered to cover the shift for me (or switch with me) If that's okay with you"

If it's a Sunday, use a wedding or church as an excuse. Or wedding rehearsal.

Maybe you can say you have family coming in town only for the weekend and you want to see them.

You have to go to a mandatory performance for school or you have to volunteer all day as part of a class.

Your boss obviously has to keep the place running, and it would be really PO'd if you cut Sunday. After all, no one wants to work on Sunday. I've had co-workers who used every personal day they had to get out of their Sunday shifts.

It sounds like if you miss Sunday it definitely won't endear you to your boss. If you miss, you need a very very good reason.

Perhaps you could best take care of this by helping your boss find someone to cover your shift....

If you have a legit answer of why you are calling off in the first place that would be easier.

Were you already scheduled for that day?

If not, tell them that you made plans for that day that you can't break.

The only thing that I can figure out is the "flu" as a last resort. But you can't do it ahead of time.

W/O knowing where you work etc (what kind of place restaurant store w/e) , it's hard to help sorry :(

My parents are coming in from out of town.........or some relative,

    OR

you could say someone close passed away suddenly and you need to console the next of kin, who has fallen off the deep end in grief and help plan the funeral out of town, that could get you a couple of days off.

    OR

go into details about how you got food poisoning, gagging on the phone as you call in... and saying, I am so sorry but I really have to goooooooo.ohhhhhhhh

I don't know about calling out ahead of time but you can call in on Saturday and say that you think you have pink eye. Or if you have children that you caught lice from your kids. That is two illnesses people normally don't want around!

As the person who hears all the excuses.....family commitments ranks pretty high on "OK" especially if I get enough time to cover for you....of course, if you pull this all the time, I don't buy it anymore. But otherwise, a family event that's a big one, like Gramma's 80th birthday, 50th anniversary for grandparents, christening of nephew, etc....

Religious observance or have to leave town to be with a family member that needs your help. God and Family have to come first. Of course, the truth is always good. Hot date, favorite TV show, huge zit, etc...
