Is a Calveir k. c. spainel a good pet to own?

Will it do good with a 11 year old and 6 year old? Can you also give me the discription of this dog?

Cavaliers are nice dogs, prone to a few medical issues like most purebreds. They really NEED to have someone with them nearly all the time. They might be ok with kids that age, but I'd prefer a slightly sturdier dog that they could play with without fear of injuring it. They tend to be very sweet and affectionate.

  • YES!! Cavaliers are excellent pets for young and old alike! They are like a small Golden Retriever in their personality, loving everyone and very tolerant, unlike some other small dogs like Chi's and Poms.

They come in 4 colors: blenheim (chestnut over white), tri-color (what I used to have: black over white, w/ some brown markings on face and ears), ruby (all chestnut), and black & tan. They have a prettier face than Cockers, but should not have bug eyes. Their coat is moderately long and incredibly silky.

If you'd like to see some photos of these lovely dogs, check out this website: www.mayfieldcavaliers.com. This woman is an AKC judge, and her Cavaliers are BEAUTIFUL!

First off they are adorable! They look like mini cocker spaniels, just cuter! If you want one that is going to be good with kids make sure the parents are very friendly, since aggresion can be herditory ( a good breeder will know the family history and will not breed dogs who are aggressive). They are beautiful and loveable dogs who stay small and do make great pets!

If your 6 yr old is calm and knows how to act around dogs, I believe the Spaniel will be fine in your household. Here is some information on the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel:

These are beautiful, sweet little spaniels, but they do need very regular brushing to keep their silky coat from matting up..Also, though they were bred to be mostly house pets, being a spaniel, they do have strong hunting instincts and will be tempted to take off after small animals. Of course, that's easily remedied by good training and a fenced yard..These dogs are also very dependent on their owners and hate to be left alone, making them loyal and loving pets, but also requiring alot of quality time. If your kids are aware of how to treat animals and are gentle with them, this breed could work out, but if they have a tendency to be rough and loud please consider a larger breed that will enjoy rough play..This little breed is a bit to small for that. Here's a couple websites with info for you:http://www.ackcsc.org/

cocker spainels can be a bit dangerous. You should not let a 6yr old by one they could get very hurt. you should get a calm family pre trained dog that will not hurt your kids. good luck. you should to pet shop workers and vets.
