I'm 33 years old and would like to have a baby later down the line, at what age is it tough to conceive?

My husband and I have only been married for a year, so we need some time to get settled before having a baby... I'm 33 and am concerned my window of opportunity is closing

It's very individual. My sister had her first at 38 and has just had her second at 40. I had my fifth at 39.

You are still young, but fertility levels start to decline after 30. Having said that, look at all the famous women who have given birth in their forties.

Go to your GP and ask for a blood test to confrim your hormone levels, eg, that you are ovulating. If there are any problems there it might be better to pinpoint them now rather than wait until you want to try for a baby.

I would say your window of opportunity will be open for a few years yet!

While women over age 35 may have more difficulty conceiving, they also have a greater chance of bearing twins. The likelihood of naturally conceived (without fertility treatment) twins peaks between ages 35 and 39.

You can conceive until menopause hits. However...

As you get older, the risk of birth defects increase steadily, as does the risk of genetic mutation and diseases that are passed on in the genetic makeup. This usually becomes prevalent as you approach 35-40years old.

Really, the "peak" age for have normal healty babies is between 20-30 years of age about...

Look it up for more information!
