Should Heroine be legalized?

In the UK there are 40,000 registered addicts, but the real figure could be four times that number.

Up to 60% of crime is drug related. Addicts committing crime to feed their habbit,

If the drug was legally administered to all users by a Doctor, you would imediatley and drastically cut crime.

It would also diminish the power and influence of the international criminals who control the black market.

Heroine is a massive and destructive problem, should the solution be in the hands of the government and the medical profession where it can be regulated and administered in a controlled manner, or should it be left in the hands of criminals and the black market.

The drugs policy in the UK is not working it needs to be changed.

Or should we just leave it exactly as it is?

Your thoughts please..

Update:

Excuse me??? Why???

maybe you didn't read the details...

because a large percentage of crime is committed directly because of an addiction, you give them the drug, then you stop innocent people being robbed, mugged and all the related stress and trauma which goes with it.

I'm talking about the drug being given directly to addicts, so they won't commit crime.

so all the people who put simply 'no' thanks for your well thoughtout answers, from this i take it you'd rather addicts rob people on a daily basis to feed their habit, correct?

Who is going to fund this administering of heroin? And how can the public be reassured that doctors don't start running a black market....which would bring about the exact same situation of people wanting to score more going to doctors that gave them lower black market prices and where would they get the money from?

It would be nice, in an ideal world where we could make things right unfortunately drug use/abuse has been ongoing since religion came about. The only solution I can think of is education and guidance so the younger ones don't start.

I think it should be left outlawed myself.

Here in the States it is a problem as well, But there is free methadone clinics and even that does not help.

Even if you did make it so a doctor had to administer it to them. There would still be crime. These drugs take over a person and make them do anything to get it. No matter if there is business hours or not. It is to highly destructive a a drug. Governments should just start executing dealers and importers. That would stop the flow, or seriously damage the trade. The current laws just do not seem to work.

A very serious problem. To get the best answer let’s look into history. Alcohol is one of the drugs no doubt. The ancient Greeks and Romans were suffering of alcoholism as much as Eskimos or Indians of nowadays. One of the reasons (among others) why Hellenic civilization failed is them being stuck in alcoholism. Two+ thousand years passed, there’s no alcoholic problem for Greeks. Why? Because all ethnics with long history of consumption of wine have a special gene in their organisms that protects them from becoming alcoholic addicts, whereas ethnics with no special gene become 100% alcoholics. Should we wait for 2000 years of natural selection to grow more resistive to heroin? And what are we going to do with other no less destructive drugs?

Do subjects of Her Majesty and other whites hope to survive in this situation? Is it really a good idea to live in an ocean of legalized drugs? If you want to give me an example of Holland on “soft” drugs, then I answer you the same. There’s quite little percentage of Asians who are marijuana addicts and almost 100% of Europeans are probable to become. The work of natural selection again!

I don't believe it should be legal but for addicts trying to recover they administer methadone everyday but you have to go to the clinic everyday to get it & be drug tested everyday before you get it to make sure your not doing street drugs
