Highlights can make or break your hair. I personally think that the trick to highlights is to choose a color that is a bit lighter than your original hair color, but not so much that it looks fake. Before you get a kit from the store or go to a salon, you could try to get natural highlights. I read somewhere that you can make your hair lighter naturally if you spritz chamomile tea on it and sit out in the sun for six hours or something. I don't know how true that is, I haven't tried it. You could try that, or even just spend more time in the sun, which will add natural highlights to your hair.

If you do decide that you want to color your hair, make sure you do it right. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people walking around with terrible highlights-they're too perfect, too light for the person's hair color, and there's so many that it looks like the colored their hair that color and added darker highlights. Try to make them as natural-looking as possible- pick a shade that is close to your own and use it sparingly. Don't make it completely perfect, with your highlights completely parallel to one another on either side of your head. Natural highlights aren't this way, so don't do this unless this is the look that you want. Make sure that you either go to a salon to get this done or get the opinion of the stylist before you do this. They can help you find the right shade for your hair color. I also suggest that you talk about this with your friends and family. If they say that highlights wouldn't suit you, then listen to them. You don't want people talking behind your back about your disastrous highlights.

Before you decide to color your hair, consider this: You are damaging your hair. You aren't going to have your hair fall out or anything, but you are damaging your hair. Also, organizations like Locks of Love only accept hair that has not been colored or permed. So if you ever want to do something like that, you'll be out of luck.

You wanted opinions too. Well, I personally wouldn't color my hair in any way. I suggest trying to get natural highlights first. This way, you know that they'll be the shade that looks best on you. They're also a lot less to worry about- you don't need to get them touched up every week and they won't look bad if your hair grows out a bit and there's a gap between where the highlights end and your darker hair color begins.

Other than this, the decision is up to you. Before you get it done, make sure that you talk to your hairstylist and your friends and family and get their opinions. Unfortunately I don't know you or what you look like (don't think I'm suggesting that you put your picture up on here, because you shouldn't) so I couldn't tell you if highlights would look good on you or not.

    Good luck!

i say do what you think you should. i mean if you really want the highlights dont let others bring you down by saying not to get them. im not just saying this i mean i went through the same thing. i just got highlights in but people said i shouldnt i didnt listen and i finally got them. when i did i totally loved them and so did everyone else. they made me feel good and they looked really cute. now i cant see myself without them. if i wouldve listened to everyone else i wouldnt be so happy with the way i look now. go with your instinct. at the end of the day its all up to you to make the choice. good luck and i hope i helped you out!!

ok, I hesitated for years before I got highlights in my light brown hair. I love them. I tried to go back to having no highlights for winter and i miss them so much and I'm getting them put back in on Sunday. they really brightened up my face and broke up the dull color of the brown. I recommend them. Just realize that it isn't real cheap, but it's worth it.

i have light brown hair and highlights. go for it. just make sure you get it done somewhere, if you do it yourself more than once (with a cap) eventually the botton part of your hair will all be blonde, instead of just highlighted.

Well, they look pretty, but once you start you can't stop. They also look really bad if they grow out. Also, when hair is coloured repeatedly it loses its shine and becomes frazzled:( Highlights can look good though, and to get them is a decision you have to make.

Girls that have light brown hair seem to look better with highlights. But remember that if you do get them youre going to have to keep getting them once your hair starts to grow,it might make your hair dull, so take care of it.*

don't get highlights because it's very bad for your hair

it makes it very dry and natural hair it's so much better because the hair colour burns your hair

    wait until you get older

and dont worry i bet u look great just the way you are

highlights are great. try starting with shades that are just a little lighter than your natural color... then if you like them go lighter if you want. it can always be fixed if you dont like it. but i suggest going to a salon.

I suggest you keep your original hair color. Hair colors and highlights are best when hair is graying.
