He thinks his drinking is normal, but he starts after work everyday and continues till he passes out. What should I do to help him?

If his already in this stage, there's nothing you can do for him on your own. Ask him to get professional help. If he doesn't want to, you can threaten to leave him. Perhaps that will help. But without treatment it's a no way street your'e in.

There is nothing you can do to help him. Only he can help himself, and that will only happen if and when he realizes that he has a problem. As long as he thinks everything is "normal", it will get worse and worse until he hits rock bottom.

If you don't want to watch him flush his life down the toilet, give him an ultimatum: He seeks treatment for his addiction or you're out of there. If he still insists that there is no problem that needs fixing, then you will know that he has chosen the booze over you and should follow through on leaving as soon as possible.

Tell him honestly how much it hurts you to see him like that. If he really loves you he'll make an effort to try and help you and himself.

If that doesn't work then threaten him. (Ex: I'll leave you if you don't stop.)

Well.. Save the threaten for the last.. but talk to him about it. Help him gradually quit or just to quit all at once.

And be there for him and be patient.

    Good luck with that :)

If it really means a lot to you, you should talk to him.

Alcohol can get addicting... and from the looks of it, it seems like he's addicted.

He should probably get some professional help if he continues this.

I talked to my boyfriend about him drinking. He'd rarely get drunk, but it's just something I don't like. He has respected me.

hunny i am going throught the same thing but worse... my boyfriend does drugs and enterd rehab 2 days ago, unwillingly of course. but al-anon really helps. you can talk to people who have been there and can really help you! i was going about "helping" all wrong and had no clue! get a book or look it up online. send me an e-mail, and let me know. i could use someone to talk to myself, if you are interested. just know you ARE NOT alone... ALOT of people go through the same thing. today was my first meeting and i learned alot i think would help you..

i think something is really troubling him and he's trying to literally drown his sorrows? talk to him ask him why he feels he needs to drink so much.

theres no way you can get him to stop drinking imediatly. instead try getting him to have less. or drink together so you know how much both of you are having.

You can't help anyone to stop drinking, dear. Just like you can't change anyone. He has to see there is a problem and want to change it himself. Then you can support him. Until then, you may want to reconsider your relationship.
