The Western chimpanzee found in central and west Africa in the states of Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Nigeria has the population between 21,000 and 55,000.
The Central chimpanzee found in Central Africa in the states of Gabon, Cameroon, Congo, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Angola (Cabinda enclave), south-east Nigeria, coastal extension of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has the population between 47,000 and 78,000 individuals.
Common chimpanzees are Endangered under a strict application of the IUCN Red List Criteria. In parts of West Africa their subpopulations have become small and highly fragmented, and therefore the two most western subspecies can readily be categorized as Endangered, especially given the long generation time of the great apes. The central and eastern subspecies are hunted in many areas, although in East Africa such hunting is still at a relatively low level. Logging is disturbing the forest habitat of many central chimpanzee populations, but often not removing forest completely. Robust Chimpanzees occur in many national parks, some of which, like the Mahale Mountains, Tanzania, are relatively large and secure. But even Mahale contains less than 1,000 chimpanzees.

"Pan troglodytes" are most common in Africa’s dense rain forests, open woodlands, and broad grasslands, particularly in Tanzania.
Hope that helps.
