Motel 6 caters to price-conscious travelers who want a clean,no-frills place to spend the night.

To be a low-cast provider of overnight lodging,Motel 6(1)selects relatively inexpensive sites on which to construct its units(usually near interstate exits and high traffic locations but far enough away to avoid paying prime site prices);(2)builds only basic facilities(no restaurant or bar and only rarely a swimming pool);(3)relies on standard architectural designs that incorporate inexpensive materials and low-cast construction techniques;and(4)provides simple room furnishings and decorations.

These approaches lower both investment costs and operating costs.

Without restaurants, bars, and all kinds of guest services,a Motel 6 unit can be operated with just front-desk personnel, room cleanup crews, and skeleton building-and-grounds maintenance.

To promote the Motel 6 concept with travelers who have simple overnight requirements, the chain uses unique, recognizable radio ads done by nationally syndicated radio personality Tom Bodett;the ads describe Motel 6`s clean rooms,no-frills facilities, friendly atmosphere, and dependably low rates(usually under $40 a night).

Motel 6`s basis for competitive advantage is lower costs than competitive in providing basic, economical overnight accommodations to price constrained travelers.

Economic break down. The definition and the ecosystem of the homeless in Taiwan are changing with the economic. It was not just the population has increased dramatically, the age group has fall from the fifties to the thirties and youngest age group is around 24. Not just for university graduates, the employers are looking for higher education graduates. Many of them wear suits and ties and become homeless.

Some charities have found that within one or two years time, the number of the homeless has increased dramatically. From the area “Wan Hua” where most homeless stay; the number has increased from around 1 thousands to 2 thousands.

In the past, a homeless would appear to be adjective, sloppiness and timid at the end corner of the street. But some volunteers have pointed out that many homeless people now are quite different. They used to be foremen of a company, managers, businessmen and headmen. Especially the foremen from the architecture and small to medium business are more likely become homeless. Through the economic breakdown, they have failed miserably; lost of income and even their family and more have made them become homeless. As the problem of prestige, they still dressed nicely with suits and ties. It makes other people hard to believe that they are homeless.

The volunteers has pointed out that most of the homeless, they would normally accept food and supplies from the charity, medicines and clothing…etc. they normally would stay at a charity chatting with the guidance of the charity with laughers but once they walk out of the door, even if they see each other again, they would avoid the person because they feel ashamed.
