John Kerry's Outburst?

What is your opinon about what John Kerry saying about Stay in school or going to war. Is he saying that our troops do not have an education. Because almost each one have a degree in something

Update:

So is he saying that if you dont do good in school you will end up in Iraq. Is that correct? What really is that suppose to mean. I really dont care about the education these ppl in Iraq fight to keep us safe they cant be that stupid... I solute to the troops. I dont consider it a joke just as well as most ppl didnt consider what Natalie from the the Dixie Chicks had to say about Bush. I think Kerry should have to punished if they had to be taken off radios at one time why shouldnt he. Think before you speak

Kerry has a long standing record of disrespecting the armed forces. Yes, he served in Vietnam. He also couldn't wait to testify before congressional fact finding commissions about the "atrocities" committed by our servicemen. For Kerry the whole exercise was a resume piece and a chance to walk on a high profile stage before congress. The men he served with didn't like him and he returned the favor.

Since ascending to the senate he hasn't used his position to help the military in any fashion. Whenever faced with a choice between funding a social program or the armed services he has no qualms with shorting the troops and he is the first to entertain accusations of wrongdoing by our servicemen.

Kerry is a picture of elitism. He went to an Ivy league college, obtained a law degree but never practiced (actually working for a paycheck is well beneath his station), speaks 2 languages and marries well whenever the upgrade provides opportunity.

So yes, I believe he committed a freudian slip and delivered a heart felt truth instead of the punch line to his joke.

It's interesting to notice that many of the responses indicating that Kerry is wrong come from people who are not in Iraq fighting, or whatever the heck they're doing there.

So, why don;t those of you who don;t appreciate Kerry's attitude walk your talk-- enlist and ship out. Put your money where your mouth is... boys and girls alike....

First of all you inaccuarately characterize this as an "Outburst", first thing you got wrong. It was a joke that Kerry botched, most of the Country understood what he meant. Was NEVER ABOUT THE TROOPS, WAS ALWAYS ABOUT OUR MORON AND CHIEF.

And, sadly no, we have a well educated military to be sure but most do Not have a degree in something.

He was not talking about the troops. He was referring to the president. Since Bush in his opinion is not smart, he made a bad decision to go to Iraq. Kerry had bad wording.

I'm no huge Kerry fan, I think he's a snob. But I (finally) watched that video of his joke today and it was pretty clear (to me, at least) that his joke was aimed at Bush.

He was trying to suggest that if you don't do well in school you will wind up making poor decisions -- as President Bush has in Iraq (President Bush had famously poor grades in college). Quoting the New York Times:

Mr. Kerry’s prepared remarks to California students on Monday called for him to say, “Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush.” In his delivery, he dropped the word “us.”

The reality is that most enlisted men and women have, at best, a high school education. The military does provide training and education to them, but, when they first enlist, most of them have a pretty limited education. I think that Kerry's point may be that, if these young people were better educated, they may have more choices, and joining the military may be less attractive to highly educated people with many career options available to them.

You confuse a high school diploma with a degree.

Also, kerry didnt have an "outburst".

I appreciate the effort sweetie. Im glad you are asking questions because that is how we learn.

You also disrespect the Troops when you slander Lt. Kerry, one of us, the troops.

    Stop it. Now.

Kerry didn't mean what came out. Senator Kerry just does NOT know how to deliver a joke (albeit, his writers wrote it poorly, also.)
