Does she has anyone in her family that suffers essential tremors? How old is she? If so she might be having some neurological diosrder, but a lot of shaking "for nothing" can go on stress, fear - anxiety. If it happens during the social situations it must be that she is having social anxiety....try noticing details, when it happens - when she is calm at home, when she is out, which situations makes it more, is it all the time? That all could be parametars for what she has. All the best!

There could be a number of reasons, a few of which include:

    Essential tremors

    Thyroid problems (high or low)

    Low basal body temperature

    Low blood sugar

    Caffeine consumption

    A mixture of the above

This is by no means an extensive list of what causes someone to shake, but it's a good start. The best place for your friend to start is to look at her diet (caffeine consumption, low blood sugar). If she drinks a lot of caffeinated drinks, she should try cutting down (or cutting them out altogether). If she has a family history of diabetes, she should make sure that she's not diabetic (or pre-diabetic).

If those don't pan out, she should ask her doctor to test her thyroid hormones (all of them, not just TSH). If none of those point to a cause, she might ask her doc for a referral to a specialist.

Shaking is the body's reaction to heat loss. When the body loses heat you get goose bumps and shake, regenerating heat. That is, unless there is a neurological problem. Think about when you sneeze or are very tired.....do you get a chill or have a hard time warming up?

Maybe Tyrettes Syndrome? Some type of medicine she is on? Or, is she getting off drugs or alcohol (DT's)?

Or.....it could be nerve problems.......? She should probably see a doctor to find out for sure.....

the body tries to generate heat by shaking. is your friend thin? it sounds like it. your blood flow tries to speed up to raise your core temp.
