if someone decided that they didn't like you and they called you a witch, you could be executed or burned at stake.... here is some more information if you need it......

If you read about the Salem Witch Trials it wasn't the fact that they were really witches, it was just other people accusing one another when things that seemed slightly unexplained happened. The way they determined people to be a "witch" (blaming others, pointing fingers) was not fair at all, but keep in mind that this was more then a hundred years ago. Now if anyone accused of someone being a witch they would lock them up in a van and send them straight to an asylum.

Today scientists know that witches are possessed by evil demons. We know that the demons can be exorcized by prayer to Jesus and by animal sacrifice. In those days they didn't know how to exorcize demons and so they had to burn them at the stake.
The Church taught that demons could be determined by what was called humane christian torture. One method was to place rats in a bowl and place the bowl upside down on the stomach of the witch. Then the bowl would be heated and the rats would eat their way into the stomach of the witch. If the witch cried out in pain then she was a witch.
Today witches are very rarely executed. Each year there are a few executed in Aftrica, but in the US the seperation of church and state prevents us from killing witches. Anyway we have more modern means of removing the demons which cause them to be witches.

I've read somewhere that the witch hunter general employed the services of juveniles and if he or she didn't like you, you were a gonner, people were executed, mainly it seems because they were disliked or eccentric, much the same reasons as many people are imprisoned today, or in some cases actually killed by misinformed self appointed judges/ executioners.
