What is the Republican Party’s plan for the nearly 47 million Americans who have no health insurance?

One in seven Americans lack health insurance. The number of Americans lacking health insurance increased by more than 6 million since Bush took office in 2001.

Their plan is to point at those less fortunate, laugh and say "better you than me". Isn't the republican party grand?

Republican Party is not responsible for getting health insurance for anyone. Where is the link on the 47 million Americans without health insurance??

Retard. Always asking the wrong question. Why do we need health insurance at all? What's the liberal moron's plan to combat skyrocketing health care costs that make health insurance (a huge piggy bank for the health care industry) a necessity. Remember the days when you could walk into a doctor's office and pay cash? Of course not, you have always relied on the gov't.

First of all, statistic can be manipulated to fit any argument. Of those 47 million, many are self employed and have CHOSEN not to buy insurance, either because they are young and don't feel they need it, or because they "self-insure". Did you know that Bill Gates is probably one of those 47 million? I don't think he pays a monthly health insurance bill. He just pays out of pocket, as do a whole lot of successful people who have worked hard and put in a lot of long days to get where they are. The young people who choose not to be covered usually do so because they want a more expensive car, ipod, beer-money, etc. Why should I have to then pay more taxes to give them something they need so that they can pay for something they want? In essence, I am then buying their stuff for them. Many others are here Illegally, and no matter what you believe of the illegal alien debate, why should law-abiding US taxpayers have to pay to insure them for free? They should go back to their socialist countries and get their "universal healthcare". Those US citizens who are truely destitute can walk into any emergency room and get care for real injuries or diseases. They are not turned away. That's already the law.

All that being said, republicans/conservatives are not cold-hearted, uncaring of the poor. We simply believe in the old adage of empowering people to provide for themselves, rather than simply giving them daily handouts (teaching to fish, not giving them fish). To us, the best way to do this is to allow everyone to keep more of what they earn and let individuals make the decisions on how best to spend their money given their own situation. Just ask yourself, which has less overhead and can get a larger percentage of charitable donations to those who need it - a government agency or a church.

Go to school, work hard, get good grades and then get a job that has health insurance. I don't see the tens of millions of illegal immigrants complaining about US health insurance. If they get a serious health problem all they do is go to a US hospital emergency room, get fixed up, have the US taxpayer pay for it and go back to work. Why can't the 47 million Americans who don't have health insurance just do that?

Don't know. Do you think government should be in the insurance business? What did people of decades ago do? Those times must have been a catastrophic one in U.S. history. Oh, but they were not. Socialism is not the way to go people.

I guess as the population contunies to grow, so will the uninsured, you think? What does the additional 6 million really mean?

    Go to Canada.

Its amazing how people want something for nothing.I have a job and I have good health insurance.I had to work gee..,I raised two children with no child support and no welfare and we had health care.If there was an emergency we could always go to a hospital. And I had a child with cancer at the time. McDonalds,BurgerKing,Taco Bell all have insurance. So if people dont want to work,I guess they dont want health insurance do they?Try another tactic, that one is getting old.

Right now it's the same as the Democratic one ! They not only don't have one,our states have raised taxes 3 x in the last five years. Excise, car plates, personal property, they've skyrocketed.

And still they can't keep up ! This only shows that there all giving themselves raises and screw you !! There all frigen crooks.

They dare not raise road taxes. I believe if things keep going the way they are in 5 years,50% of our paychecks will be taxes. this is sickening !! It means the government is not looking out for our welfare as a whole ! MTC

  • That figure includes at least 10 million illegal immigrants, to start with. I hope ANY plan to address health insurance makes that clear. Whatever people feel the government's obligations are to citizens, I would assume that they would not feel we owe the same obligations to those here illegally.

How about lowering taxes and stiffening penalties for fraudulent lawsuits. That way companies can afford to offer it and insurance companies won't have to charge out the @ss to sell it. Of course that makes too much sense for libs to comprehend it. They'd rather sell our souls to the government and let the Feds supply health coverage.
