Shri Krishna left the body due to piercing of arrow of a hunter, who mistook the glare of a Mani in the feet of Shri Krishna..to be an eye of a deer

The hunter was reincarnation of Bali, whom god had killed in Rama avatar. so to clear him of his Karma Chain, shri Krishna gave him a chance to kill him so that his soul is free from karmic debt

Shri Krishna was God himself..he could have left his body anytime at will...but even while leaving his body he wanted to clear karmic debt of someone.!!

Prabhas Patan, is situated in Gujarat(Saurashtra) and is a pilgrim place or Tirtha. Here Krishna is supposed to have left his mortal body at the end of Krishna avatar (Avatars), having been killed by a hunter by mistaking Krishna for a deer.

The mission of Krishna's life had been achieved. The evil were destroyed and the good protected. Krishna decided to leave the world. He sent messengers to bring the Pandavas. Sitting under a tree he began deep meditation and soon forgot the rest of the world.

A hunter came that way. He saw Krishna's foot from a distance and mistook him for a deer. He shot an arrow. The arrow entered Krishna's foot. The hunter ran to the spot and saw what had happened. He was shocked. Krishna comforted him and left the world.

Following the war Krishna lived at Dwaraka for thirty-six years. Then at a festival, a fight broke out between the Yadavas who exterminated each other. The clan now mostly destroyed, his elder brother Balarama too gave up his body using Yoga. Krishna retired into the forest and sat under a tree in meditation. A hunter mistook his partly visible foot for a deer and shot an arrow wounding him mortally.

The Mahabharata (Mausala Parva) says: (The hunter) ...Regarding himself an offender, and filled with fear, he touched the feet of Keshava. The high-souled one comforted him and then ascended upwards, filling the entire sky with splendour. ...the illustrious Narayana of fierce energy, the Creator and Destroyer of all, that preceptor of Yoga, filling Heaven with his splendour, reached his own inconceivable region.

When a hunter named Jara came by, he mistook Krishna for a deer and shot an arrow into His foot. Krishna died at once and his spirit rose into heaven.
