What Would The World Be, Without The United States???

I'm NOT trying to offend or provoke anyone. I just thought this question would be interesting. Everyone is always pointing out the things that the US does wrong so what would happen if the US was gone? I am not a supporter of Bush or this war and I don't deny that the United States...or rather it's leaders, have done some things in the present and the past that are horrible and shameful. I also don't deny the fact that the US has done a ton of good as well. Truth is nobody is ever going to be totally satisfied with any single decision made by any person. We aren't the first ones to go to war and we definitely wont be the last. This isn't the first war that people don't agree with and it won't be the last.

Update:

Toshy I doubt it would be safer. We arent the first to go somewhere where we are "unwelcome." Example: The very French that point the finger at us now have also in the past invaded Switzerland and Egypt to name a FEW.

First of all, this is a really good question. Unfortunately, there is no right or wrong answer to it, as any answer is purely speculative.

I will try to give you my answer/opinion, without dwelling too deep into historical knowledge.

Having said that, since World War II the United States has been the undisputed leader of the Western world. Before the United States, the British Empire was the world's leading power for two centuries. The United States and Great Britain share similar values. Nobody alive today can remember a time when one of these nations was not the major force in the world. Certainly, neither the United States nor Britain has been a perfect world leader. But it is equally certain that domination by other nations would have made the world a very different place. A look back at fairly recent history well illustrates this fact.

A post-Anglo-Saxon world is frightening to contemplate. Whoever takes over as the dominant power will not share the same values as the United States and Britain. Maybe some of those values would remain, but certainly not all. How it might happen is a topic for another question. But, for the moment, imagine the unimaginable-Washington gone. What would happen?

At first glance, the cultural values that the US has allowed to spread over much of the occidental world (and slowly creeping into the East) would not be present. Britney Spears and 50 Cent wouldn't be idolized, we would have other artists coming from a much different background, bringing forth much different values. Imagine how different the cinematic world would be without the driving force and innovations brought forth by the many people working in this field in the US.

The economic world would be completely different, granted, the globalization phenomenon would most certainly persist, but the most viable state to take up top spot would be China. With china controlling the vast majority of the world's economy, would it allow its political and social values influence world changing decisions?

And just imagine a world without the presence of the US armed forces abroad, the landscape would be much different. I can't even begin to list how much the world would be a different place without them. In 2006, Foreign Policy Magazine named Iraq as the fourth most unstabilized nation in the world. Can you imagine how many lives have been affected by the presence of the US in Iraq, both at home and abroad?

In summary, pardon me if I haven't been able to answer your question with hard-hitting evidence and facts as to how the world ''could or would be'' no answer of this type could be justified, since any and all would be purely hypothetical, not to mention of subjective nature.

If the US did not exist would the world be more peaceful? NO!

People are people and make their own choices. Evil exists outside the US, and no matter how many protests or wars that go on in this world, you will never be able to change that particular person.

I believe that everyone has a right to voice their opinion and follow what they believe is right. I don't always agree with the decisions made from our government, but I could not imagine living in some other countries.

There are some countries that give no rights to women and children. There are some countries with no structure of law and have a poor economy.

Please show me a country that has not made mistakes, from the past to the present.

Do I agree or like Bush and his decisions? NO! But, I also don't agree with people creating hate towards our country and creating hate towards other countries as well.

It depends, our country was instrumental in bringing about two major world wars to a successful and albeit quick end. We have led the way for human rights. Our founding fathers virtually started a government where everyone can actually be treated fairly.

I am not sure what we did wrong other than going into Iraq and maybe a few other countries during Reagan's admin and also Vietnam. Other than that, we are pretty okay with the world.

the world would be German and we would all wear swastikas on our arms. do you all really think that that would be a safe world ? its funny how allot of Americans don't even love their own country. they should pack up and leave. Iraq is looking for a few good citizen. if this country is so bad why are all nationalities from across the world dying to get here. it's the big dream to go live in America. the proverbial lotto winner.

America was loved by the world, until George W, Bush destroyed our credibility,,, after 9-11,, the good will among world leaders was gracious,, a window of opportunity was squandered by the president,, plus he allowed Osama the mastermind of the 9-11 attacks and the worlds #1 terrorist to escape into Pakistan,, now the commander in chief is promoting the president of Pakistan, Musharraf's book,, he is harboring Osama bin laden,,, Bush is a traitor to America
