What does the bible say about gay love?

read 1 Samuel 17:58 1 Samuel chapters 18 - 25

Its a love story between 2 men, King Sauls son Jonathan and David...the Giant killer...(David and Goliath)

and now tell me that God Condems Homosexuals!!!!

(he doesn't...he loves us)

18:1: It happened, when he had made an end of speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

18:2: Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.

18:3: Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

18:4: Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him, and gave it to David, and his clothing, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his sash.

(it continues from there...enjoy)

Update 2:

20:40: Jonathan gave his weapons to his boy, and said to him, Go, carry them to the city.

20:41: As soon as the boy was gone, David arose out of [a place] toward the South, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.

20:42: Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, because we have sworn both of us in the name of Yahweh, saying, Yahweh shall be between me and you, and between my seed and your seed, forever. He arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.

Not lot because god is just an idea and the bible is a collection of myths.

While we have none of the autographs of the Bible, the early manuscripts we do have have and that are known to be genuine, by the most conservative estimates, have 200,000 differences between the wording in them, and while many are not meaningful, some completely change the doctrine of the church. (Ehrman, Bart, Ph.D.; Misquoting Jesus: The story behind who changed the Bible and Why; Harper Collins, 2006 -- p. 89). less conservative estimates range up to about 400,000 -- and there are programmers now endeavoring to write a program that will be able to count the exact number of variances.

And that's only the start of the difficulties for the Bible. If you only use the Textus Receptus (Received Text) as it is printed in modern Bibles then you are looking at enormous problems anyway -- in fact insurmountable ones. The World does not have corners (Isaiah 11:12), nor does it sit on pillars (I Samuel 2:8), nor water (Psalms 24:1-2). God did not establish a solid dome over the earth (that's what firmament literally means) and he does not have a palace on top of it from which angels can come and go up Jacob's ladder -- which might be reached by the tower of babel -- and where he keeps "treasuries" of hail and snow (Job 38: 22-23). For the sake of all that is decent, you can't even harmonize the 1st and 2nd chapters of Genesis with each other, say nothing of being able to defend the Biblical creation as scientifically factual. That's no surprise though, as the Bible tells us that beetles have four legs (Leviticus 11: 21-23) and that rabbits chew their cuds (Deuteronomy 14:7). It says that pi is 3, not 3.14 (I Kings 7:23 and 2 Chronicles 4:2) and that the mustard seed is the smallest seed in the world and grows into a tree [neither of which are true] (Matthew 13: 31-32). It is hardly a font of rational thought or scientific accuracy. Furthermore these errors only scratch the surface. Try harmonizing accounts in Joshua and the telling of the same tales in timeline in Judges sometime. If you can you are more proficient than any theologian I've ever met, and I've met a few.

Late bronze age men created the OT and early iron age ones the NT. It is not surprising therefore that God cannot lead Israel to defeat Iron chariots after promising he would (Judges 1:19), and it is not surprising that the flight of Israel from the god Chemosh, after the king of a city the Jews were beseiging and that God had promised them they would overthrow The King of the city offered his own son to Chemosh as a human sacrifice, resulting in Chemosh driving the Israelites away (2 Kings 3: 19-27) -- further it is not surprising that no punishment is mentioned -- the Israelites were still sacrificing their own children, as is evidenced in several places, but most graphically in Judges 11:30-39

The long and short of it is, the Bible is a mythic book, written by bronze and iron age men who were recording primarily oral legends in written form. In any realistic sense it is drivel. You can see, just in the passages I noted above from 2 Kings -- the last vestiges of polytheism fading away. Chemosh was supposed to get power from human sacrifice, just as Jehovah did -- and that power allowed him to turn the table against Israel, despite the fact that God was with Israel.

Read the verses, read the context -- to all the things I've suggested, calm your breathing and thinking and ask yourself if this is really the God of the Universe you are reading about -- or a tribal deity, which has now evolved into the one we worship. I think you will find biblegod sadly lacking -- something the liturgical churches have been saying for hundreds of years. If you find yourself unwilling to even look -- ask yourself why? Are you willing to sacrifice the truth, in order to maintain a comfortable myth for yourself?

And if you want a chuckle, read the second, and theoretically final version of the ten commandments. They are in Exodus 34: 10-26. That is the covenant Yahweh actually made with Israel. No seething here.

Seriously, you are feeling conflicted because you have been told things that are not true -- the biggest one being that the Bible is the Word of God. The Bible is a bronze age book written by bronze age men -- except for some parts of the NT that were written by early Iron age men. It is not divine, and what is says about human sexuality is greatly dependent on the sexual morales of a single culture in the 1st to 4th century CE -- 1st to 4th century I say because the root copies that we have are from the 1st to 4th centuries. Anything older may well have been -- as we can see from Dr. Ehrman's work -- changed.

    Have a nice day.

I have just finished reading 1st Samuel, where do you find In there, that David and Johnathen were lovers, or that they had sex? All I seen was that they had brotherly love. It even talks about saul giving David his daughter for a wife. This is not about sex with 2 boys, Its about a friendship of 2 boys, such a friendship that they loved each other like brothers.....Read Romans chapter 1 verse 8, that right there tells us what God feels about men being with men, and women with women. He says its an abomination.... So 1st Samuel cannot be about sexual love, Its a brotherly love between the 2 boys.

You are a perfect example of a gobshyte You hate the Bible, thats fine, you can be part of whatever religion or faith you want to be. You can be non-religious, atheist, agnostosist, seculuralist or whatever you want to be, thats fine. You're right about religion, be it ( Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Jewdaism ) ...or whatever, yes they have their flaws, wrong doings and all of that but it is the same with criminals, terrorists, governments and nearly everything else, no human is perfect, no animal is perfect, no plant is perfect, no anything is perfect but if everything was perfect and the way all of us wanted it to be, then there would be nothing left to fight for, to pray for or even to hope for, the world would be a boring place with no meaning or dignity. Yes in my opinion "gay" marriage is okay and acceptable, although it is not my say. Dont take the Bible literally for Jesus Christ did not write it, it is interpretations. There is no need to scorne it either.

Let us not forget the Book Of Ruth and it's tale of Naomi and Ruths love for one another!

Also know that the interpretations of the Bible have been translated and retranslated enumerous times. There is NO word for homosexual in any of the original languages of the books of the Bible. The word wasn't even invented until 1800!

Remember also the social roles of men and women in the time of the Bible. Women were concidered lower than DOGS! To lie with a man as would a woman meant to lower the male to the status of a woman...less than the family dog!

Also the words used for what are currently translated into "homosexual" and such actually meant "Temple Prostitute" and "under age BOY."

So if you think about it, it's more against prostitution and pedophilia!

Also, know that JESUS said NOTHING about homosexuals or Homosexuality.

Because Paul never knew of any!

He was filled with hatred of anything different, he hated women and forced Mary to a secondary role in the Bible, when there is a clear example where Jesus insisted SHE was to be his sucessor after his death!

God created and loves us all....and He makes no mistakes! If God didn't create homosexuals, there wouldn't be any!

"fake" Christians like to "use" the Bible out of context, and have retranslated to suit their "purpose." there's a lot of things that they say is in there, that isn't...or has been retranslated and misinterpreted....

check out the site below. we received this in print form at our Pride fest here this summer....

Y'know, as soon as I get a lobotomy and change faiths I'll care what the Bible says. Until then, it's just another book.

The Love between David and Johnathan was " above that of women" meaning that it was higher, purer, and likely Non-sexual. Otherwise the Bible says that sodomy is a sin and interestingly enough states that sodomites will turn away from God rather than turn away from their sin.

These loves don't refer to gay love... when the bible talks about love it normally refers to the love between two people... as friends. Today the word "love" has been strongly associated with sex so many people presume that this is what the Bible means. When people have sex in the Bible it tends to say that one person "lay" with the other. (Eg. Genesis 4:1 - "Adam lay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.")

God HATES sin but LOVES the sinner. He HATES homosexuality but LOVES the homosexual. There are many examples of God's love throughout the bible... but that's not what you are looking for. Here are a few passages from the bible which talk about God's view on homosexuality (from another question i answered)

    Leviticus 18:22

"Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

    Leviticus 20:13

"If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

*By the way Leviticus is old testament stuff: before Jesus came to wash away our sins. Don't get freaked out thinking Christians are scary people who kill everyone! This was written thousands of years ago when that kind of thing was accepted as punishment.

    Matthew 19:4-6

"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female' and said 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be unified with his WIFE, and the two shall become one flesh"

Romans 1:18-32 with particular attention to 27

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

19 because that which is known of God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them.

20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse.

21 Because, knowing God, they didn't glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves,

25 who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature.

27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error.

    28 Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers,

30 backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

    31 without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful;

32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

    1 Corinthians 6:9

9 Or don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals,

10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortioners, will inherit the Kingdom of God.

    Make up your own mind.

He says that it's wrong. Love and marriage is to be between a man and a woman. I mean, why do you think he made adam and eve? they COULD MAKE CHILDREN. just sayin', but i don't think a man and a man, or a woman and a woman can create a baby TOGETHER.
