go out often til youre exhausted or get a job dealing with the public. youll be wierd for sure at first, but then youll have a swagger to you once you find your legs in no time.

I kinda know what you mean. I was raised in a tiny small itsy bitsy town where it was almost an event if you saw somebody you didnt know and news travelled almost faster than it happened.

First culture shock was the crude mannerisms of city folk.

    You get over it.

Honestly i dont think there is a cure to get rid of our illness's.

I have anxiety disorder.I get to anxious and nervous to go out places .So all you do basically is force yourself out.Thats what i do and it isnt gonna go away until you do what has to be done. That is when you know youve accomplished your fear of outdoors.

Are you social phobic?or just have a bad anxiety disorder?

What you can do is get on the medication which is called paxil what i have.It kinda control you on how you act and think. Not in a bad way,but a positive way. This medication im on overrides the negative thoughts i have popped up in my head and makes you calm and comfortable.

Check into your local pharmacy or doc and prescribe some meds itll get rid of the problem but not effectively cure it.

Definitely stay away from here. It is addictive and the more you use it the more like a crutch it will become and less and less will you go out.

Anxiety and fear about public places can be psychological thing. So why not have a word with your GP. He may suggest counselling. Good luck!

Get professional help for sure, you don't want to sit with this alone. If you don't hv healthcare, call the yellow pgs. Community centers can offer therapy on sliding scales for about 30 bucks/hr. Cheaper still try self-help books at Borders or Barnes & Noble. There may even be some at the library. Practice. Go for a walk everyday and increasing the time and distance of your walks slowly. Start going out with someone whom you are comfortable with. One who understand your condition and can give you the supports. Once you are comfortable, he/she can walk behind you, as if you are walking alone...etc. I read a lot about this, and I understand this - You fear of the "fear" itself, not so much of the place of being alone. For those who have panic attack, they are fearful that they would have another attack and lead to embarassment. I feel that understand why you feel that way helps a lot. Once you know it, you will realise that it's not a big deal (not as scary as what you thought). Other methods are like counting 100 backwards, distract your attention - reading a book or focus on something else. Yes, you can be out from this, I did. :)

The best way is just to do it, get out there, go to an open place with people first and then work your way into a more busy place. Go to a mall and just walk around it several times a day, you'll get used to it.

I, too, was raised in a small small town and moved to the city, city traffic was my worst fear!!! LOL

Start slow. Go out with a friend or family member who understands your anxiety. Try to engage in conversation all the time, it will take your mind off what's happening. Keep at it. After a while you should be able to go further and further afield and eventually on your own

You do need to face your fear, because your fear is an irrational one. You need to keep going out. Take things in stages. Go to busier places each time you go out.

Buy a book on NLP or see a cognative behavioral therapist.

I know how you feel - I have the same fear, the only way of over-coming it is to practice it.

It takes a while to psych myself up, but I tell myself that they are not judging me, in fact they will forget my face 1 minute from now.....or if I have to speak in public...I picture everyone with no clothes on with all their floppy bits hanging out.

Find a friend or family memberto go out with you.Little trips at a time.I had this problem but is was after i quit my job of 20 years.

if you feel that it is going to affect you in the long run seek proffesional help. There is such thing for this type of disorder. You are not crazy though because it is very common!
