I think it was popular because it was easy to watch, no violence and it touches on real life scenarios hence being a sit com. I think also that everybody wishes that they had that type of relationship with their friends. It would be great to be able to just be yourself and know they will always be there for youI also loved sex in the city.

I don't know that the show was actually that popular. The television producers put some shows on TV and leave them there that they want to keep shoving down our throats for political or social reasons, and they remove other shows that are popular because they don't make the right political and/or social statements. I don't know very many "Friends" fans. Sure "Friends" was popular, but not overwhelmingly popular like it was made out to be. Everybody I know loved the show "Northern Exposure" years ago, but it was canned because it wasn't pushing the politically correct agenda, even though it was a very popular show.

Why was it soo popular? Who knows. Never really cared for the show, and when I did watch the show, Lisa Kudrow would always make me laugh. To me, she was the funniest one of the group. And, when she played her twin, Ursula, the waitress at Riff's on Mad About You, she is funny as hell.

Other then that, I do not really like the show and cannot understand how they really got to be ' Freinds' in the first place!

It was popular for all the reasons you gave.

People want to have friends that will be there for you no matter what.

Living in a nice apartment....having nice clothes...looking good didn't hurt either.

I have no idea....I never EVER watched it. I owned a coffeehouse, and all my customers always talked about that show. I believe that it always injected current trends...like the coffeehouse craze....and people could relate directly to the way of life those people lead....

It was popular because they spent a lot of money on it; the writing, the casting, the production, etc.
