why is it called a RECEIVING blanket?

    It is called a receiving blanket because after you give birth to the baby, the doctor or nurse wraps the baby in this type of blanket for warmth before you hold (receive) your newborn.

    I guess because when you receive your baby its in one of the kinds of blankets??

    Because you receive the baby in it... & if you notice that is how the stork delivers the baby too, in the receiving blanket... :)

    Maybe it originated when they used the blanked to recieve the baby, out of the mother?
