    Really easy. The atom gets one or more electrons, or the atom gives up one or more electrons.

    Thats the only way an ion can form.

    1. An atom gains one or more electrons and becomes a negative ion.

    2. An atom gives up one or more electrons and becomes a positive ion.

    An ion forms by adding electros or removing electrons to/from the atom.

    Atoms become ions by gaining or losing electrons. So they become atoms again by giving back those electrons they took, or gaining back the ones they lost.

    Na-->Na+ + 1 e-

    Na+ + 1e- ---> Na

    Cl + 1e- --> Cl-

    Cl- - 1e- ---> Cl
