    If you were in a car accident and you are the plaintiff. The other insurance company offered and gave you money to pay for your property damage or medical bills or pain and suffering, no it is not taxable on a Federal Level or California.

    Is this the case??

    No I had a settlement against a Podiatrist quite a few years ago & I didn't have to claim it.
