Advise for getting a computer for a Saturn 94 sc2...?
Hi. I have a saturn 94 sc2. One week ago the engine suddenly started to stop working while wating at the intersections. I changed the fuel filter hoping this could solve the problem but it didn't. I took the car to the mechanic - I would wished that the problem would be the fuel pump or some sensor- but after the car's evaluation, the mechanic said that the computer was sending "ilogical signals". Therefore, I needed to replace it.
This guy said he could try to find a "used computer". After two or three days, he called me back saying that maybe the car's model was a limited edition because he had not found the device. He found some alike cars but the computer's color was different -does the color play an important role when comparing car's computers?
In a nutshell, What do you recommend between getting a new or used computer? What could be the the diference in price between those options?
Thank you in advance.

The color of the (Brain not computer) doesnt matter.. The key is it has to be from the same model and make and year that your car is.. I would definitly go with a used computer because thats not a common thing that goes out very often.. I would say if your going to buy a used computer take it from a car at pick a part or your local salvage yard that was involved in an accident... You atleast know the car was running before it made it to the salvage yard and before the accident... I've replaced a few brains in my time and trust me, make sure its the same make and model and year.. That way you insure that all your specific electrical devices will work...

Computers seldom fail in new cars. If you get another one you will need to keep the Eprom from your old computer.
Have another diagnostic done. Unplug all sensor connections , clean with contact cleaner and plug back in.
Disconnect battery to try to reset memory. Clean all codes with scan tool.

If it really does need a ECU then go to the dealer and they offer
remanufactured units with a warranty. ECU failures are very rare by the way...

They rebuild them and sell them cheaper. Also coil paks are a problem. I know here in Tennessee theres a place that does it. You will have to look on the net.
