Just because your in love doesn't mean you should rush your relationship...a true test of being in love is time. Give it time..at least until your 21...i mean almost every marriage ends in divorce these days so be together and see what time brings you...then after a few years see if your really ready to get married...Getting married young doesn't prove anything to anyone...staying with the same person for a long time does.

I don't know you or your boyfriend but I know that getting engaged or married is a big decision. You are going to spend the rest of your life with this person. It takes more than six months to get to know a person real well. That is if you know yourself well and you know what you really want. At 18 years old you hardly have enough life experience to know yourself well. Some people spend all there life without knowing what they really want. Being in love is wonderful but you have to ask yourself what really makes you love that person. Is it just a physical attraction which usually fades away after a while or there really something else..... . So take your time enjoy life and know yourself well, because when you do you would not ask us if it is a good idea to get engaged or married since you will be ready to answer it yourself.

    Good luck

I had this happen in a major way! I was a preppy, honors girl and my husband was a total popular football jock. We even went to some of the same parties in high school and didn't even notice each other. Anyway, that was 1979...move forward to 1989, both of us had moved to Seattle from California and he answered my ad in a social column! We hit it off like gangbusters and married 1 year later...we have been together ever since...the preppy girl and the football jock...who would have thought! The difference in our situations is age and maturity...be careful marriage is a good thing but I would finish college before I got married and establish myself before I married too!

6 months is enough time to get to know someone. I would say become engaged if you feel that this will last forever, however, I would have a long engagement. I am also engaged and going to college and it is very hard to keep the relationship going sometimes because he feels neglected!! I also work a full time job also though. Best of luck to you!!!

Just a few questions to ask and for you to think about. Are you all financially stable? I mean have money that you all wouldn't have to lean or depend on someone for help. If push comes to shove, are you willing to work full time job, go to school full time, and have time for your husband? Does he or you have your own place? To answer your question, at your age, I wouldn't recommend marriage. Going to school, getting married and having financial obligations (rent, food, car, utilites etc.) is a lot on a couple who hasn't started their career yet and could be a strain on a marriage. I recommend that you two date and have fun and if you all are still together by the time you are a senior in college, then start talking marriage and planning a wedding.

I am 29 and just got married to a man I dated for 4 years. Marriage is a strong commitment, it will still be there for you. Enjoy your college experience, take advantage of it. It is perfect to be in love, if it is true, it will still be there. People do grow and change a lot in college and for your career to come. Do not sell yourself short, like I said, if it is meant to be, you can be together through all of life's experiences. Right now, I would stay together and enjoy eachother, just not rush into marriage.

Six months is enough time to get to know someone well, but it never hurts to wait. Just think, you two can spend the rest of your lives together. I think you should enjoy this stage in your relationship and when the time is right to advance to engagement, you will know -- no matter what anyone else says.

Since you are so young, you can have a long engagement. Nobody gets married while they are still in college these days! I had several friends who had long engagements bc they were so young.

Are your parents paying for your school? You might want to figure out what they are and are not willing to do.

Sounds a bit young right? well at least your not having kids right now o anything! You should have some experience in college first, and before getting engaged you should try living together.

Don't do it. You are too young. You will change so much before you turn 30. There is so much out there. DON"T DO IT!! IF you love him wait at least 5 or so yrs. Believe me it costs more for a divorce than to get married
