Yes, they should allow disabled people in the military. In war, you not only have to be physically fit but also mentally prepared. There are many people who are physically disabled but mentally very sharp, these people can be used as a strategist. They can help the military in various ways, like designing military vehicles or air-crafts and weapons. There are various work involve in the military which doesn't require physical but mental ability,so disabled people should be allowed. To win a war, you not only need brawn but brains too.

First it was women, then worrying about them getting in harms way. Then it was Gays, Don't ask, Don't tell. Now disabled ? You trying to totally make the military have more problems than they already have? Every person in the Military must be able to fire a weapon (rifle) in my opinion. No such thing as a non combatant, what if the post gets over run? Who is going to have time to look after the disabled personnel ? Full mental and physical function is required.

Only if they can satisfactorily perform every duty required of them in their position, and their special needs would not require critical extra seconds (such as waiting to load a wheelchair onto a helicopter escaping from enemy territory) thereby putting others at risk. Combat duty would be ruled out in most cases, but there are many other types of positions in the military.

OK but at what level would you consider a disability not a disability,......................and by the same token what do you consider NOT a severe disability???

And if they where allowed in who would be their baby sitters ???

Not a good idea period, same as why people with diabetes can never join as there MIGHT be a time when they can not be given their insulin which usually needs to be refrigerated as well kinda hard to do that on the battle field.

Disabled people may be able to do some jobs, like cook or maybe fix vehicles, but what happens when the convoy they are in gets hit by an IED and they need to react and return fire?

no, they need those admin jobs for people that were injured while on active duty and can longer do the job they enlisted for.

No! It's the Armed Forces and not the YMCA.

Yeah, as small job people for sure, but not as soldiers waving big AT-4 Rocket Launchers around.
