Lerning English in effective ways

I have always been looking for an effective way of learning English. I remember when I was in grade 7 I was pretty good at English. But when I got to grade 8, the amount of words I would have to remember increased and the grammatical rules and phrase usage became complicated, that is why I gave in to it.As soon as I started in a TAFE school I swore to myself I would study hard for English. That is roughly when I realized English is so crucial. English is not only required for tests, it is also necessary for work. I began to look for ways to effectively learn it. First I started by listening in carefully in class and take all notes, later I found out that frequecy for English lesson is far less in TAFE than in junior high school. My determination to learn suddenly dropped to rock bottom. I then bought a book on grammar, I read a chapter each night and memorized 30 words a day. I never learnt English phonetics, I listened to electronic dictionary pronounciations to correct my own. I gradually learnt phonetics and it boosted the effectiveness of learning. Later I realized it is not enough to just work hard on my own. I began to actively approach my teacher and ask questions regarding English, the teacher was always more than happy to help and he/she encouraged me. I was very glad and at the same time learning fast. As a result I summed up a number of effective ways to learn English. First is by listening music and watch films in English. Secondly make reading English a daily habit, like English magazines or novels. Lastly, write more in English, like diary or homework. I am convinced if someone can do all three of these activities his/her English will improve very quickly.

I still study English everyday now. Although my English is still not very good, but it is much better now than before. I learned a lesson out of this, that is, you've gotta be determined and persistant and patient in regardless of what you do.
