Larry was accepted at three different graduate schools, and must choose one. Elite U costs $50,000 per year and did not offer Larry any financial aid. Larry values attending Elite U at $60,000 per year. State College costs $30,000 per year, and offered Larry an annual $10,000 scholarship. Larry values attending State College at $40,000 per year.

NoName U costs $20,000 per year, and offered Larry a full $20,000 annual scholarship.

Larry values attending NoName at $15,000 per year.

The opportunity cost of attending State College is?

    In economics, opportunity cost, or economic cost, is the cost of something in terms of an opportunity forgone (and the benefits that could be received from that opportunity), or the most valuable forgone alternative, i.e. the second best alternative

    opportunity cost 基本概念: 指被放棄各種選擇中最高價值者,注意是最高價值者而不是其他價值者

    這三個當中的No Name 是最好的選擇(花費最少)依次是State, Elite

    若選擇Elite, 則剩下State(40,000), No Name(15,000) 兩個選擇,

    No Name 是最好的選擇(花費最少) 所以機會成本是 15,000

    若選擇State, 則剩下Elite(60,000), No Name(15,000) 兩個選擇,

    No Name 是最好的選擇(花費最少) 所以機會成本是 15,000
