Could 9-11 been prevented & its Condi's fault?

Two Months Before 9/11, an Urgent Warning to Rice from Tenet

For months, Tenet had been pressing Rice to set a clear counterterrorism policy, including specific presidential orders called "findings" that would give the CIA stronger authority to conduct covert action against bin Laden.

Tenet had been losing sleep over the recent intelligence he'd seen. There was no conclusive, smoking-gun intelligence, but there was such a huge volume of data that an intelligence officer's instinct strongly suggested that something was coming. He and Black hoped to convey the depth of their anxiety & get Rice to kick-start the government into immediate action.

Tenet & Black felt they were not getting through to Rice. She was polite, but they felt the brush-off. President Bush had said he didn't want to "swat at flies".

Afterward, Tenet looked back on the meeting w/Rice as a tremendous lost opportunity to prevent or disrupt the Sept. 11 attacks. Rice could have gotten through to Bush on the threat.

Black later said, "The only thing we didn't do was pull the trigger to the gun we were holding to her head."

Rice responded in an interview that "what we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years."

Rice said she cannot recall CIA chief George Tenet warning her of an impending al-Qaida attack in the United States.

But she can tell you what shoes she was wearing on the day of 9-11 attacks...

Keep trying . It must be sad to be a liberal idiot. You will conveniently forget Clinton's mistakes. You will try to blame the Bush administration. Forget it. You are fighting a lost battle. There is no question Clinton screwed up. Remember the world trade center was bombed before??? Why can't liberals face the truth? Tell me Bush was negligent. Okay, what if he was? It does not excuse Clinton's failures, does it? But because you are a Liberal, with a agenda, all evil will begin, and end with George Bush. You will attempt to paint him in a bad light. Yell , that he was irresponsible. Save it fool. In today's world, with other sources of information , your socialist ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, have competition. You no longer control information. Today, people have the Internet, talk radio, and Fox news. It must be sad to be a liberal.

Consider Ted Turner. A signer of the humanist manifesto. Out of touch with the average American. He is a atheist, who signed humanist manifesto 2 . He said Christianity was a religion for losers, remember??? Last time I checked, about 90 percent of America believed in a God. That adds up to a lot of losers. He is of course a intelligent fool isn't he? I am so over come, that I feel I should just bow down ,and worship. Let me prostate myself before this fool, and worship. We can worship Man, Get it? I really doubt it.

Hon, if you'd pay attention, you'd know that Tenet had several opportunities to get bin Laden but he either refused or stopped it as it was in progress. Further, you write this as if you are the source. Just because Bob Woodward writes it in his book, doesn't make it true.

On CBS's "Early Show" Monday, the head of the CIA's bin Laden unit during the Clinton administration, Michael Scheuer, said the al Qaeda leader "is alive today" because Clinton and his top lieutenants (i.e. Tenent) refused to kill him. "It's just an incredible kind of situation," said Scheuer, "for the American people over the weekend to hear their former president mislead them."

Scheuer resigned from the CIA in 2004 after 22 years' service to publish, at first anonymously, "Imperial Hubris" -- a withering assault on performances by both Clinton and Bush. As a critic of Israel and Saudi Arabia alike, Scheuer fits no conventional ideological mold.

In his role of CBS News terrorism analyst, Scheuer was asked Monday to comment on Clinton's Sunday performance (when Clinton yelled at Wallace in that Fox interview) and provided more than his questioner apparently bargained for. To claim that the CIA could not verify that bin Laden was responsible for the attack on the USS Cole, said Scheuer, "the former president seems able to deny facts with impunity."

Scheuer continued: "He defames the CIA . . . and the men and women who risked their lives to give their administration repeated chances to kill bin Laden." Asked whether Bush was no less responsible for letting bin Laden escape from Tora Bora in Afghanistan, Scheuer replied: "The fact of the matter is that the Bush administration had one chance that they botched, and the Clinton administration had eight to 10 chances that they refused to try. At least at Tora Bora, our forces were on the ground."

I'm sure you people can come up with excuses as to why this is all a lie, but no, it isn't Connie's fault, but apparently Clinton is afraid that history may think it was his.

Why don't you whine about something else that happened a long time ago that you couldn’t change? What about the titanic, they knew about iceberg’s two months before they crashed into one. But what does it do now... nothing, get over it. pointing fingers only makes you look foolish. I don’t like the current people in power but time will tell if the next prez is any better. if you want something to whine about than get rid of Electoral College votes. than you can complain about the president that got voted in that hired Condoleezza Rice.

It certainly could have, but it would have had to be done years before 9/11, that said, no, It's not condi's fault.

Something about multiple opportunities by the clinton administration to capture or kill Bin Laden spring to mind...

It could have been prevented by Clinton, perhaps.

But he saved Bin Laden's life because he wanted to be buddies.
