Does the Star of David have to have the intersecting lines in the middle of it or can it be drawn without?

I have drawn it without any of the lines in the middle like where the two triangles would meet, can it be without the lines or does a proper star have to have the triangular lines?

The six points of the star are significant as is the hexagon the points make in the middle.
