Jamestown was settled in order to find gold. (1607) Also those who settled there came as individual men NOT as families.

In Massachusetts Bay and Plymouth Colony (both in Massachusetts) FAMILIES came here in hopes of gaining religious freedom. However they also hoped to gain greater wealth in America than they did in Holland or England.
