You are to use a rope to lower a mass of 36 kg. The maximum tension that the rope will support is 282. If you lower the mass with a constant maximum tension, what will the acceleration be? Give your answer good to 3 significant figures. Include units, take up as positive.

i got a=7.83 m/(s^2) does that sound right?

and i believe that the 282 is in newtons

    F=ma.

    F1=36kg*-9.8m/s^2

    F1=-352.8N

    F2=282N

    Total force is F1+F2 = 282-352.8

    Total F=-70.8N

    F=ma

    a=F/m

    a=-70.8N/36kg

    a=-1.9666666666666667m/s^2
