I live in Denver, right between the two schools. I would say that while both events were very tragic, you'd have to say that from a psychological and emotional perspective Columbine was more tragic to a larger number of people. I say that for a couple of reasons. Number 1. Columbine was an atrocity committed by fellow students while Platte's evil came from a scary looking outsider with a criminal record. Much easier to accept something when it comes from outside. Number 2. the number of deaths at Columbine was multiplied and so by simple math more people were directly affected. Number 3. Before Columbine, the idea that schools can be deadly was for most people something they didn't consider. When Columbine happened the reaction was "Oh my God how could that happen?", with Platte Canyon it was more like, "Oh no, not again". Please don't misunderstand, I'm not saying the loss of the young female student at Platte is any less tragic than the loss of any of the students from Columbine. Life is precious. I'm just pointing out a couple of factors that amplify the loss at Columbine.

Both were so sad...the feelings of helplessness and wasted lives. Columbine was so publicized, most people would say they were the most tragic. But really, how can we measure?

Columbine. It was really the first of this stupid school slaughtering BS. WTF is wrong with people? Schools in general are just so detrimental that I have half the mind to just homeschool my kids. Gangs, drugs, shootings, rude teachers, sex at 11, etc. No thanks.

Oh but back to your question: What I find really tragic is the fact that after Columbine, Colorado still has yet to learn to lock doors and install security guards in their schools.
