rodents and pumpkins!?

obviously the "boo" factor isn't working on the little rodents which like to nibble on my pumpkins. Is there anything i can put near or on my pumpkins to keep the rodents away.........and that wont kill them???

    Hmm...

Maybe try to put some vanilla extract around the pumpkins... It seems like I remember hearing they're put off by the smell of vanilla... Of course I could be totally wrong and you'll get a total infestation... But good luck anyhow!!
