An easy way to remember what 10^x is, is a 1 followed by x zeroes.

In this case, 10^9 is a one followed by 9 zeroes, or 1,000,000,000. As everybody else but those who were wrong has said.

To find out 10 to any power you just take the power number and add that many zeros after one. For example: 10 to the first = 10; 1 zero after the one. 10 to the third = 1000; 3 zeros after the one.
