I know exactly how you feel. I broke out in severe dermititis and excema all over, including my eyelids 1 month before my wedding, I was so scared that it wasn't going to go away. I went to the eye doctor and she said that when your eyes get irritated or dry the skin around your eyes can get irritated also.
I had to take drops for dry eye (which you can get over the counter), I stopped wearing eye makeup for a week and used Cetaphil which is a lotion with no perfumes, additives, and all that other stuff that irritates your skin (you can get that at walmart, target, etc). It was better in a couple of weeks. My dermatologist told me to continue to use benadryl for the swelling.
The cause of it can be a number of things, if you think that you may be allergic to something (which I thought I was) go get a patch test done at your local dermatologist.
**Warning this test is expensive if you don't have health insurance. I got it done and found out that I was allergic to a couple of things, but nothing pertaining to my eyelid dermatitis. I had health insurance and still ended up paying a lot.
In my opinion I would stick to perfume free lotion, minimal makeup, and prayer. In my eyes doctors are overrated and I could have saved myself a lot of money by just doing simple changes.
FYI- allgery medications and birthcontrol are drying agents to your body and can cause dermatitis. I would also consider trying bare mineral makeup it has done wonders for my skin, and it is better for it! :)
I hope I have helped you in some way, may God Bless you!
