There is a place in Portugal called Parque Natural da Serra de Sao Mamede." Not all the parks shown on the map cited above have the phrase "da Serra" in their names, so that must mean something specific as well(?). Sao means saint; looking up "sao mamede," "mamede," "saint portuguese," etc. hasn't taken me much of anywhere, except in finding the phrase "Sao Joao Mamede." Is St. Joao Mamede a local saint (Mamede being some sort of place reference) or does "mamede" mean something in English (as Sao Joao Batista means St. John the Baptist)?
