Slice onions thin, but not too much, then in a pan add a couple tbsp. of olive oil and when is hot add the onions. Saute over medium heat stir occasionally add some salt and pepper and just let cook until tender and light brown in color. Some times at this stage I add a little splash of balsamic vinegar for added flavor and just let cook off so it all becomes sweet and delicious... Yummy

Cut the onions uniformly (sliced, diced, chopped)
Heat a saute pan (over medium heat)
Add 2 Tbsp unsalted butter to the hot pan
As soon as the butter starts turning a golden brown put the cut onions into the pan and begin sauteing until the onions are also a golden brown. You will need to stir the onions frequently to keep them from burning.

Thin slice onions and place in a heavy skillet with a couple of teaspoons of margarine or butter. Add a sprinkle of sugar, and cook over low heat until the onions are brown and sweet.
You need to stir constantly and watch them closely during the carmelization, or else they will burn faster than you can believe possible.

Get your onions ready. Heat a heavy pan(not to hot). Put about 2 teaspoon of oil (or grease of your burgers). Put the onions in over medium high heat, stir until brown. Salt and pepper. Enjoy!

Sautee some sliced onions in olive oil and add a teaspoon of sugar. Sautee until they are nicely browned.
Carmelizing is the method of bringing out an onion's natural sugar and sweetness. Vidalia onions work very well.

You can brown them in butter, olive oil, vegetable oil, whatever you like. If you are cutting back on fat, brown them in a nonstick pan and don't use any oil. Med heat, add just a dab of water if you need to to prevent sticking, just until the water cooks out. Some people add sugar, some don't (I'm not a fan of unnecessary sugar).Throw some mushrooms in if ya wanna, but you have to invite me over!

all this means is to cook the onion, usually in rings, slowly in fat till they become a brown color and are wilted. they become sweet and that's where the term caramelized comes from. you can make them as dark as you want, but don't burn them; they become bitter.Source(s): experience

Sexy Trojan is right, but you may not need to add much sugar depending on the sugar content of the onions you use. Low heat, please, or you'll burn them.
