termite in the backyard. Should I get a termite plan?

i found termites in my backyard munching on tree stumps and firewood. I have lived in a single-family home in Virginia for 2 years.

Should I get a termite plan? or DIY

I got an estimate for $900 for termidor. They inject it around the house.

A different company wanted to set up baits around the house for $600 plus $200 a year to change the bates periodically.

First get rid of the wood ASAP .And for the love of god if the wood was anywhere near the house DO NT PLAY AROUND get the bug guy out there ASAP .If the wood or tree is far from the house then you may be OK just get the house treated anyway.I would not try to treat this myseft because you don't know what your dealing with . The termites will sent in scouts to check out your house and could actually be in your house and you not know it until they begin to do significant damage by then if you find sand or sawdust it to late you will be making some serious repairs call the exterminator its best you put out the cash now and call it a day then call out the exterminator as well as a contractor later and the value of the house get kicked. In other words you pay now or you will pay later. Also note if you can see them then it most likely they are eying up your home and mostly are working on it .Sorry but its going to get cold soon and they they like warm damp places with water around and will work on your home all year long DO NT PLAY AROUND WITH THIS GET RID OF THEM NOW.Now that's my 2 cents oh by the way they will lay low in the house when it gets cold but will get real busy come spring. Also note that it my understanding that you should not have to have

repeat treatment from a exterminators prospective termites are very easy to kill the onetime treatment should do the trick.I'm not sure why you're being told that you need repeated treatments for this.but I believe that incorrect.try to contact the bigger exterminating companies and get at least 3 estimates to see if the information you got is standard

OH.. those termite people are as bad as car salesmen(I hope you are not a car salesman) but I have the same or similar problem... I would like to get a plan but it costs too much and they just keep charging and charging and it never stops. I do not think that I have termites but one never knows.

In YOUR case.. I would attempt to DIY but I do not know your circumstances.. primarily.. do you have termites in the house. I can tell(pretty much anyway) if I do or not. Little mounds on the cement foundation inside or outside the house, etc.. If you do not, then I would get a sprayer(something you should have anyway) and so EXCELLENT termite spray(a bit pricey I know) there at Heckinger's and I would spray the heck out of the wood pile..... (Note: I have always made an effort to NEVER have wood piles around or close to the house.. even wood trellises)... AND I spray the foundation area of my house twice a year whether it needs it or not.... Do NOT get the termite spray at Walmart/s or the grocery store. Go to Heckinger's(Home Depot/Lowe's) and buy the BEST termite killer and mix accordingly.

They have the kits at Home Depot that you can put out for the termites. I'd check into that before paying a company. They have the same bait stations and spikes as the companies do and it's allot cheaper.

That 900 will seem cheap if they are in your house
