Can one be pro-CHOICE and still anti-ABORTION?

I beleive so. I think that even in cases of rape, a woman should do her best to overcome suffering, and make her peace with God. She should have the child, but only if she wants to. We cannot be so cruels as to punish with chidlren, for children are a Gift of God.

Agreest thou?

Absolutely. In fact, everyone I know that is pro-choice is also personally anti-abortion. They just don't think they have the right to make such personal decisions for anyone else.

The thing about the abortion debate is that the two sides are arguing entirely unrelated issues. Pro-life people say "abortion is bad, nobody should have one". Someone who was pro-abortion (if such a person exists) would say "abortion si good, everyone should have one".

Pro-choice advocates say "The government not should be making personal decisions that like". It's not about abortion. It's about who gets to make the decisions.

Face it -- someone is going to choose. It's either going to be the individual, or it's going to be the majority (through enacted laws). If the majority gets to choose, then they are effectively imposing their belief system -- which is almost always religiously-based -- on everyone.

The concept of reproductive freedoms is not whether you agree with the individual choices being made. It's whether you think the government should have the right to take away and mandate those choices.

Why can't people understand that freedom of choice is not a minority value, even if the majority happens to disagree with the minority's choice?

  • Cases of rape are what they have the "morning after" pill for. I know this for a fact. Other than endangerment of the life of the expectant mother, I don't believe there is a good reason for abortion.

Don't want kids? Don't have sex!

Now, if the "morning after" pill fails, THEN, and only then, should a rape survivor be able to get an abortion.

If only it was a perfect world, where abortion didn't have to stay legal to give women a sterile environment in which they could have an abortion done...

As a sidenote, you do realize that Jesus probably would not have used the world "thou" and "thee", and that whole thing, right? The King James Bible used the contemporary language AT THAT TIME. Who's to say it wasn't different 2000 years ago? I'm sure it was. Ever try to read Old English? It's even more impossible than Middle English!

Of course that is possible... However if everyone that was PRO CHOICE, was ANTI ABORTION there wouldn't be any abortions, would there now? I personaly am Pro-Life... but that doesn't mean I am against all abortions, in the case of incest or rape. My biggest thing with abortion is that if you are a woman and you choose to have sex, you should live with the consequences instead of just saying "oh well, i'll just kill the baby, no worries". That is what disturbs me. In a rape case, that woman did not choose to have sex... see the difference? Also if the woman's health is threatened I think it is okay. But me personally, I am a medical transcriptionist and i have typed on 16, 17, 18 year old girls that have already had 2, 3, 4 abortions in their life at that age. I think that is horribly disgusting and that may be why I vote pro-life... Babies are so innocent. They didn't ask to be made, and they certainly didn't ask to be killed...

the government part? sure i don't think it's the government's choice to tell you what to do... i just think it should be a moral choice...

Yes - you can say pro choice and anti-abortion but what you really are is PRO CHOICE and want to appeal to the anti abortion crowd if you are a politician. If you are just a regular guy who says this - you probably don't know what you want half the time.

I am anti-abortion as birth control. I believe a woman has the right to an abortion (morning after pill - not kill a BABY) if she is raped. If her life is in danger she should also have the right to make a decision to end her child's life.

I know a girl named Debbie that I went to school with and she had 4 abortions. She tried to get the dads to marry her and when they said NO she aborted the baby. True story...I have NO respect for her at all.

I defiantly agree I unfortunately had one a very long time ago. at the time it was a very hard thing for me to make the decision and then latter deal and cope w/ what happen i was not raped but in a very bad situation. I was raised catholic so I already had alot of shame to think about and the fear of God. now that I am older and wiser about life and God I feel secure in my decision. God is a for giving God and a knowing God he new what I was facing, and was there to hold me when I cryed. But I still don't believe someone should use it as a method of birth control that is wrong. There is where the anti come into affect

I am pro-choice. AND I am against abortion. You make your choice when you jump in the sack! This must be an all or nothing deal... if you allow it for rape cases, then every unwanted pregnancy will become a "rape". Not that I wouldn't hurt for the true cases... but there are so many more babies killed that are NOT... the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Pro choice, it is for each woman to choose her own path, not man, nor Government. The Chinese Communist Government decided that they would make the choice, one child for each couple. No government in the world has the right to choose .

Tofu , you're not Jesus, in case you haven't noticed. I wish you could be placed in total reality and actually give birth, it's not for sissies. How about being raped first? Then get over it, and make peace with your Dad?

Since you and none of the men answering that they are "Pro Life" are ever going to give birth, your opinions are welcome, but you don't have a clue! It's a girl thing!

Yes, Jesus, I agree verily. In fact, I have never known of a person who is Pro abortion. I think most of those who finally have abortions do seriously consider carrying it to term, but sometimes, for whatever reason, it is not possible. I think, in those cases, those women should have the care of a doctor and a hospital instead of having to go to the back alley and have some guy use a coat hanger or a knife.

I am not sure, though, that it is possible to be pro life and pro death penalty. The guy on death row is a life as the fetus. He may be a horrible person, but it is a life just the same. If one of their arguments is that we cannot choose the lives we keep, then how can they make that decision?

    I agree.

    I am anti-abortion, and pro-choice.

Abortion has reached epidemic levels, because of the #1 cause of abrortion, the stigma on unwed mothers from the conservative right. It is simply wrong. This has always been the cause of abortion. In fact, when Mary was pregnant with Jesus, God had to send an angel to Joseph, so that he would marry here, otherwise the conservative right would have stoned her for being pregnant out of wedlock.

The anti-choicers, want the government to make the decision about abortion, and no one else. And the government is not qualified.

Yes you can. I feel that it needs to be more regulated but there should still be that choice. If a woman is raped or is a victim of incest then it should be her choice period. If she is under 18 it should also be a choice but she would have to have her parents consent. There should also be a database that keeps track of how many a girl has had so that a girl cannot use it as a form of birth control. So there are ways to keep both happy.
