Here is a lot of reasons but there is even more then I listed:

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, although teen drivers (ages of 15 and 20) constitute almost 7 percent of all licensed drivers, they are involved in 14 percent of fatal motor vehicle-related crashes. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a 16-year-old driver is more than 20 times as likely to have a motor vehicle crash than any other licensed driver. In fact, the leading cause of death among 16- to 20-year-olds is motor vehicle-related crashes.

Adolescents are far less likely to use seat belts than any other age group.

When adolescents drive after drinking alcohol, they are more likely than adults to be involved in a crash, even when drinking less alcohol than adults.

Adolescents also cause a disproportionate number of deaths among non-adolescent drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.

Alcohol is involved in nearly 35 percent of adolescent (15 to 20 years) driver fatalities.

There are two main reasons why teenage drivers are at increased risk for motor vehicle-related crashes that result in injury or death, including the following:

    lack of driving experience

Lack of experience means the teenage driver is less able to detect and respond to traffic hazards, less in control of his/her vehicle, and less able to integrate speed.

    Risk behavior of teenagers

Teenagers tend to take more risks as they are influenced by their emotions, stress, and peer pressure. In addition, experimenting with alcohol and recreational drugs can impair the teenager's driving ability. Also, teenage drivers tend to not use their seat belts, increasing their risk of injury in a crash. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), less than one-fourth of high school students say they always wear their seat belts when another person is driving.

I may not have agreed back then... but the majority are inexperienced drivers...and statistically likely to be involved in or cause:

    high speed accidents

    drinking and driving related accidents

    death to their own peers

I'm sure that there are great drivers out there, of all ages, the problem is you get the majorities involved... then ... blamm.. the whole age group "can't" drive...

Like.. older drivers (old old people), etc...

There is no real reason why people under 18 shouldn't drive....it's like I said... when the majority of under 18'ers get behind the wheel... it's bad news..

when my son was 14 we lived in Iowa, we lived in the country and he could get a school permit at the age of 14. He could only drive to and from school and to school functions. Then at 15 he got his regular permit and then his regular licenses at 16. That was a few years ago and we don' t live there anymore. Things could gave changed by now. If I were to do it again I would not let him get that school permit.

The prefrontal cortex is a part of the brain that is located between the temples and behind the forehead. This part of the brain controls our risk-taking behavior that is not fully matured until the age of twenty-five. Sixteen is awfully far from twenty-five. Risk-taking is a natural tendency that everyone has. Negative or positive, it shows through our experimentation.

it would be safer, cuz lots of teens thinks they are cool and they will have lots of accidents and speeding tickets. It's would cuz less accident and once they get order like 18 they will realize how dangerous is to drive. Also, they will also be more alert to drive.

no new ideas, just the same old true ones, they're irresponsible and even tho they think they can, they can't drive. they haven't been alive long enough to have the experience necessary to safely operate a dangerous machine. yeah, that means you.
