It means to have a micro chip surgicaly implanted into the body.

Microchipping is when you have the vet put in a rice-sized microchip (with a needle) into your pet, so that when it is lost, they can scan the area and pull up the information. The microchip stays in the pet for life, so it is the best way to assure your pet is returned to you if it ever ends up at the pound.

If you do it, be sure to follow through with getting all the information to the company, as well as updating when you move and change information...otherwise, they won't be able to track you down even if they do read the microchip on your pet.

Well, microchipping means that the vet takes a big needle and inserts a literal microchip under the animals skin. THe chip contains a serial number that in turn gives information off a database on the owner of the animal.

The vet will put a small microchip under the skin of your pet. The micro chip needs to be registered and can be read by a reader. If your pet gets lost, an animal shelter, vet, etc. can scan your pet and reunite you and your pet. It's a good idea. All three of my dogs have them although, thankfully, I never had to try it out. My "pound puppy" was microchipped at the animal shelter before I adopted her. My vet took care of the other two for $30 a piece and then I had to register them with the company for about $17. The money is worth piece of mind knowing if they get lost, you can get them back.

A tiny capsule, about the size of a grain of rice, is injected under the flap of skin on the back of the dog's neck. Veterinarians and shelters are provided with a scanner that reads the digital number on the chip inside the capsule. If your pet is picked up as a stray and he is microchipped, a quick phone call to the microchip company will have your information, and your pet will soon be home safe.

It is like when they put a microchip in an animal. The chip contains certain information (like the pets name/breed/health information, owners name and address, etc...) With a certain type of scanner, they can pull up that information and use it to return the animal to it's owner.

Similar concepts have been suggested with children and people (altzheimer patients). There have also been suggestions of GPS chips being put on these chips to track movement and behavior.

It's where a tiny microchip is injected. They do it to animals so that if the animal gets lost they can be tracked down. The microchip is microscopic so it cannot be seen

its a tiny rice sized chip placed under your pets skin like getting a big shot. works like lojack does for cars. vets, shelters and most rescues have a reader that can read the microchip number in case your pet is lost.they in turn call the microchip company and get your pet home

if you get a microchip it is like the dog or cat or whatever always having a name tag on. If the color falls off and the pound gets a hold of your pet they automatically look for a chip. It is the best name tag you can buy.

It's a little chip that has your name and number in it and they put in in your animal so if anyone finds it they can take it to the vet and the vet will use a microchip scanner and find the choip.....

Its a tiny chip with information on the owner of the dog or cat, placed just under the skin. Can be done by a vet or animal shelter.

Lost dogs, cats when brought in are scanned with a protable scanner to see if they have one, if so the owner is contacted.

If you are thinking of doing this with a dog, get a tag made that says "this dog is micochipped" and attach it to their collar.
