A girl can start using tampons right from onset of her first menstrual period. Make sure to start using ones that are designed for beginners {like Playtex Slimfits}. Wait until you are actively bleeding [not just spotting]; this usually happens on the second or third day after your flow starts. By then, your vaginal canal is well lubricated and slippery, which will make insertion easier. Once a tampon is properly placed within your vagina, you won't even be able to feel it in there. The best way to learn is to ask an experienced tampon user [your mom, sister, cousin, or a friend whom you trust], to demonstrate how she puts one herself while you observe. Then have this same woman to be with you the first couple of times you put one in, for reassurance and/or help. In my case, it was my mother who taught me to use tampons, using the method I have described. It is also very useful to read the instruction leaflet enclosed in the box of tampons, and to visit some websites designed specially for young girls; I'd recommend http://www.beinggirl.com and http://www.tampaxpearl.com. You can request an information package and tampon samples from both sites. I wish you the best of luck, and hope that my advice has been of help.

OK Hun i will tell you there is no age for using a tampon. I only used pads for 3 days out of my whole life. i couldn't stand that feeling. If you are just going to be using a tampon for your first time get Tampax gentle glide i believe. Always want to use plastic never cardboard apdatdor. Cardboard apdatdor just hurt lol. There is instructions in the box when you get them if you don't feel comfortable with asking someone how to use them. Good luck Hun.

well when your at the age where you can follow directions and remember to remove the tampon at most every 8 hrs, depending on the flow. for me it was 16 yrs old and it takes a few trys until you get it right. just remember to relax your muscles of your lower half and you should be fine. my older sis was the one who encouraged me to use tampons. practice makes perfect. lol. she also commented that if i thought that was frustrating sex would be 10 times worse. ha ha.

i wouldn't recommend you sleeping with one in, you could get toxic shock syndrom. make sure to read about that on the box.

i think tampons are good for going to work or school. i feel more comfortable wearing them than pads.

the downside is that they don't absorb much, especially on the first 2 days of your period. wich means you have to change it often.

i would sugest platex gentle glide for a 1st timer. and if inserted correctly it should not hurt.

I was an athelete, so I was using them by age 13. I taught myself and helped a few other people by telling them what to do. It should not hurt, if it hurts, then the tampon you are using is too big.

You can start useing them as soon as you get your first period. I actully had a friend whos mom showed her how to use one before her first time so she would know. They make special teen ones if the regulars are uncomfortable. All tampon boxes have instructions inside that will show you how, but its best to learn for your mom, older sister, older female friend or relative. They take a little getting used to but then they make having your period a bit more bareable b/c you can do everything that you normally do (swim, horseback ride, excersize, wear skirts or tight jeans)

In my opinion, no age is a good age to start using tampons, as commercial tampons are the most harmful out of over twenty different menstrual options, linked not just to TSS but also vaginal infection, vaginal splitting, fibre loss, increased menstrual cramps, etc. due not only to the function of tampons themselves but also due to unnecessary and harmful manufacturing process.

I started using them when I first had my period at 12 years old, and I taught myself, it hurt like blazes at first because I didn't put it far enough in so it caused serious pain all night as I didn't think to take it out and try again. After that it caused a lot of friction burns and for me they caused constant infections, thus why I switched over to a menstrual cup.

Tampons like pad, sponges, cups, free-flow...any menstrual option, can be used at any time, there is no age restriction, and it just depends on the girl in question.

you can use a tampon as soon as you start you rperiod..it doesn't hurt, maybe when you use them at first change it more than often so your body can get used to it, also read about toxic shock syndrome...you are only supposed to wear them for a certain amoutn of time before you change it..and if you go and buy a pakcage they usually have an instruction manual

I know from my partner it doesn't hurt, and she started the month after her first period. She taught herself from the directions on the box.

Most women only wear tampons when they really need one...Like if you play a sport or wearing clothing in which someone might see you panty lines...

Just read the directions on the box.

And they have different sizes, it depends on your built...Some women can wear super and some just wear the sim fits.

And it hurts if you put it in wrong...ouch..and you would know when you put it in wrong....
