If you are currently in school, take classes in biomedical engineering, and neuroscience/biology. Also, look for jobs as a research technician in university laboratories which study neural implants. Even if you just get an entry level job, like doing dishes in a lab or administrative work, getting first-hand exposure to the field would be very advantageous and allow you to see if this is something in which you'd liek to obtain a higher ed. degree. Good luck!
