Those Level3 answers were pretty slack. C'mon guys, some effort, please. Level3 ought to mean something.

The closest Mars gets to Earth at conjunction is 56 million miles. The shuttle in Earth orbit travels at 17500 mph. Quick divide shows 3200 hours or about 133 days. It would take a little longer, due to orbital mechanics, but this would give you a rough idea. Of course, the space shuttle does not have enough supplies (oxygen, water, food, propellant) to make the trip.

Our current space shuttle could never make the trip because it's not equipped for journey outside Earth's atmosphere.
